Due to it being a Pokémon fan game I’m not going to link or Tell you where to find and play this game. I won’t snitch to the Nintendo ninjas, if you know. You know. That being said let’s delve into the world of this mysterious game.
You know how every Pokémon fan game is just “what if Pokémon were edgy?” Or “what it Pokémon was good?” Well this is edgy and good in a good way. Instead of crude humor and gore, this game takes a different path. You are (protagonist) and the story and lore are based off of your moral choices.
Story:
In this game, players assume the role of (name), a young trainer undergoing an entrance exam for Pokemon school. After answering a few questions, the exam determines their character and path in the game, as well as the starter Pokemon they will recieve. While the written section is a fail, it is just enough to progress to the next stage, where they are embraced by their mother, who is overjoyed to send them to school. However, as the character sleeps, they descend into a nightmarish realm, where their home has been destroyed and their mother has been slain by a malevolent shadow spirit. The dark forbidding spirit, threatens us by asking if we’ll kill it or not. The scene is terrifying and gives our character a bit of depth, as we wake up.
When we wake up, were relieved that its all thankfully just a dream. empowered by the relief that our mom is safe. we're sent out to adventure, given the running shoes and are sent to pokemon academy. When we arrive at school we’re met with a small cast of characters, a ninja girl names hyun, a ghost loving goth girl named Yariette, a fighter girl named akiza, and a dragon master girl named Cassandra. The school itself is a grandly designed school with a giant cafeteria, class rooms, dorms and alike. We’re sent to the reception hall, where were met with the student council. The council. Where we meet the other main characters a fun but uptight girl named Elissa and a bully named lygn.
Yariette:
Akiza:
Hyun:
At the reception, the principal provides additional context regarding the school, though the player finds the explanation a tad tedious and falls asleep in response. Upon their departure, the bully, Lygn, begins harassing them, ultimately leading to Elissa coming to their rescue. Following this incident, they are prompted to select a mentor from a list of available tutors, though they opt for Aurora, the sleepy ghost girl whose sleep schedule proves to be an obstacle. Despite her condition, Aurora offers her support and communicates her availability via a note that contains her cell phone number. Additionally, players will notice a heart meter adjacent to their NPC friends, signifying their.
But enough of that it’s time for school, as we enter our first day at school we’re met with professor Dee, he informs us that the scores came back from our personality quiz and the school has our starter for us. The game decided due to my answers the best Pokémon for me is a snivy, which Ironically enough, when gen 5 came out. I chose a snivy.
after a quick introduction we’re met with how the world works, there’s no routes with Pokémon to fight till we get to a town with a gym, we are met with capture zones similarly to the safari zone, this zone will change depending on your teacher. Zone 1 is grass, bug and normal type Pokémon. Along this zone I caught a decent amount of Pokémon; just to make a decent team. After our first day our mentor is at the front door waiting for us but is really tired.
Aurora offers us a nap, which we do. And it gets wild fast. It starts to go from Pokémon to persona fast as we have another nightmare. A pair of big red hands beak the glass between the dream worlds but we’re saved by Aurora, who has her own dream world, a world where she’s safe from harm. Also there are wild Pokémon there too. She calls out our childhood for being bad but saves we’re safe for now. In her dreamworld we see the student council in different lights. Aurora is a powerful woman, the blue haired one is sulking about being a loser. Elissa is telling us to relax and not study. And our bully from earlier lygn has gone insane with conquest. This moment it made me ask, are these Shadows of their true self? Or are they just illusions made by a nightmare world in the dreamworld I capture an igglypuff and togapi to even out my party as we wake up. The next day everyone who I can be friends with has more options like bond and talk to, but nothing can be done yet.
For a bit of time, you’ll grind out your stats so you can push boulders or expand your rank and socialize with the girls a bit. I socialized with the ghost girl and the Tom boy terry Bogard. Throughout the game you’ll interact with them, gaining new friends on the way grants you and your chosen pathways a new point to an affiliation, the ninja girl gives you a light affiliation and the ghost girl is dark. So on and so forth, it’s very persona like, which also matches the nightmare from earlier. However, the story kind of halts at this point mainly grinding points to do meaningful tasks like punch boulders and grind Pokémon, which is easier because they put an xp candy in the store.
While the game is still in beta mode, it holds its fair share of amusing bugs. One such example occurs when players attempt to make a phone call to their friends while in their dorm room. Instead of engaging in a friendly chat, their teacher unexpectedly challenges them upon arrival at class. An additional bug to be aware of is Professor Dees Kricketune's musical prowess, which allows it to "Delewoop" the player's Pokemon. A straightforward grinding method involves attending class, visiting the Dojo, and repeatedly breaking rocks for XP. Then, players can sell the obtained materials at the market and purchase XP candies.
But for now, this is where I part ways with this game, when more story gets added to the game, from the story I played there’s a lot of good ideas and concepts. A lot of great features and world building and it shows what a good Pokémon game can be. I'm going to keep my eyes open for this fan game for any future updates and give you a full review once the full game is released.
Features:
It’s a Pokémon game, typical 1 or 2 Pokémon battles, items and alike.
Newly added features:
You can call out to your Pokémon in battle to give them a slight stat boost.
Non-combat features:
Having your Pokémon follow you from gen 4
The Pokémon are not a random encounter based on a space you walked on but are models walking around the world.
Moral choices: your pathway is based off of the choices you make, helping people with quests give you a point to a light path, crimes give a dark point and send you to jail. Yes jail.
dynamax raids are a small encounter and not a big raid which feels odd.
Over all: if you can find it. Def try it out. It’s worth to play for Pokémon fans all over.
