Doom... a game that needs no introduction. Everyone in the gaming fandom can attest to its iconic status. We all have our favorite version of Doom Guy, along with countless memories of shooting down a Cyber Demon or saving Mars from a fiery pit of Hell itself. This legendary franchise has left an imprint in the gaming universe and has become synonymous with all things brutal, edgy, and epic. Whether it be a throwback to the series' roots or a modern and unique iteration, Doom is sure to be a blast from start to finish.

It's a story I enjoy telling, a trip down memory lane so to speak. My favorite memory of the 'Doom' franchise dates back to elementary school, when the school computer lab had been equipped with a DOS Box, complete with two games: 'Alone in the Dark' and 'Doom 2'. The first time I booted up the game and began blasting demons, I was hooked, my smile stretching from floor to ceiling. Anytime the weather outside was gloomy, I would sneak myself a few minutes of 'Doom 2' to brighten by day. Those memories of gaming on a rainy day will always be fondly remembered.

My first time playing "Doom 2," I had a blast, running straight into a hoard of zombie space marines and pumping them full of lead. My shots may have sucked, but my joy and excitement were on full blast. When I first encountered an imp in a hallway, I froze in terror. Demons and imps had never looked so real before! Well as real as a 2d Sprite could have felt.  The duel was intense, with my heart pounding as I fired my shot only for it to be returned with equal vigor.  As I continued through the claustrophobic hallways, I couldn't help but be amazed at how great this game felt. Each time I died, I came back with a new determination, and the 16-bit variations of industrial rock music only fueled my growing desire to reach the end of the level. As I blasted demons and scored points, I felt like a god among elementary schoolchildren. While my score may not have been impressive, the excitement and sense of accomplishment was palpable. And those memories, those will be kept in my heart forever.
