The Game Awards 2024 Predictions

As the game awards rears its head right around the corner, the official twitter announced the official Nominations for every category, From best Narrative, to best Design and Game Of The Year, this is my 2024, game award predictions.

Best Game Direction:

In the world of video games, the perfect experience comes wrapped in the perfect package. Just as gameplay and storytelling are key, presentation plays an equally vital role. From the rich narrative depths of Final Fantasy VII to the intense, foreboding landscapes of Elden Ring, every great game thrives on impeccable direction to deliver a truly unforgettable journey.

Black Myth: Wukong
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Metaphor: ReFantazio

I believe the winner is Black Myth: Wukong! Reflecting on the story and seeing the gameplay in action, it’s clear the developers poured their hearts into perfecting every detail. The result? An incredible experience that truly immerses you in the role of the legendary Monkey King from Chinese mythology.

Best Narrative

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Metaphor: ReFantanzio
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
Silent Hill 2

Best Art Direction:

Every great game begins with its art. Whether it’s the vibrant, flourishing landscapes of Black Myth: Wukong, the hauntingly desolate world of Elden Ring, or the charming designs in Astro Bot, each game’s journey starts with a clear creative vision. Art sets the tone and direction, shaping the worlds we love to explore.

Astro Bot
Black Myth: Wukong
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Neva

I predict that Astro Bot will take the win, riding high on nostalgia from classic Sony IPs. The game brilliantly reimagines iconic worlds and heroes as adorable robotic versions, capturing the essence of beloved franchises. Each small, intricately designed level boasts its own unique art direction, paying homage to the worlds they reference—from the lush jungles of Tomb Raider to the whimsical charm of Ape Escape. With its creative execution and attention to detail, Astro Bot is a strong contender, deserving of this award.

Best Score and Music

The second cornerstone of a memorable video game is its music. A powerful OST not only enhances the gameplay experience but also leaves a lasting impression, defining how players remember the game. From the hauntingly dark and oppressive tones of Silent Hill to the sweeping, bombastic melodies of Final Fantasy VII, a well-crafted score immerses players and perfectly complements the world it inhabits.

Astro Bot
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Silent Hill 2
Stellar Blade

The winner of this award will likely come down to two contenders. First, Stellar Blade, with its action-packed sequences balanced by a somber piano score that heightens the drama and emotional weight of the experience. Second, Silent Hill 2, which, as mentioned earlier, delivers a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. From eerie creaking floors to melancholic and haunting guitar strokes, it captures the unsettling atmosphere that defines the series. Both soundtracks masterfully enhance their respective games, making either a deserving choice for the award.

Best Audio Design

Astro Bot
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Silent Hill 2

Best Performance:

In the modern era of video games, voice acting has become a vital aspect of the gaming experience. Bringing characters to life through spoken dialogue allows players to connect with the story on a deeper level, eliminating the need to imagine how a character might sound. It also adds emotional nuance, helping convey the tone and intent behind the words in ways that older, text-only narratives couldn’t achieve. Voice acting enriches storytelling, making it more immersive and impactful for players.

Hannah Telle, Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Briana White, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Humberly González, Star Wars Outlaws
Luke Roberts, Silent Hill 2
Melina Juergens, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2

I believe the winner of this award will be Luke Roberts for his portrayal of James Sunderland. His performance is so seamless and fitting that you almost forget he’s a new actor stepping into the role. While his voice bears a resemblance to his predecessor, his nuanced inflection and delivery elevate the character, bringing more depth and emotion than was possible in the original PlayStation 2 version. It's a masterful performance that redefines an iconic character.

Innovation in Accessibility:

In the modern age of gaming, accessibility has become a crucial focus, ensuring games are enjoyable for a diverse audience. Developers are moving beyond designing exclusively for fully able-bodied players. Innovations like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s contrast adjustment settings and Diablo 4’s screen reader options for partially blind players highlight the industry’s strides in inclusivity. These advancements represent a brighter, more inclusive future for disabled gamers, making gaming a space for everyone to enjoy.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Diablo IV
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Star Wars Outlaws

I believe Dragon Age: The Veilguard will take home this award. Its accessibility options are a remarkable achievement, setting a high standard in the industry. From the ability to remove motion blur to offering customizable UI fonts and adjustable font sizes, the game ensures that players can tailor their experience to suit their needs. Additionally, features like visual death indicators further enhance usability, making the game more accessible to a wider audience. The Veilguard stands out for its dedication to inclusivity, offering a gaming experience that truly welcomes everyone.

Games for Impact

Having a positive impact on the world is no small feat for any game, but titles like Closer The Distance and Life Is Strange: Double Exposure manage to do just that. Closer The Distance touches on the emotional depth of familial bonds, exploring how connections and relationships shape our lives in profound ways. Meanwhile, Life Is Strange: Double Exposure delves into the heavy theme of confronting the consequences of our past actions, making players reflect on the choices they've made. Both games stand out not only for their storytelling but also for their ability to foster empathy and meaningful self-reflection.

And honestly, the winner is likely going to be Final Fantasy XIV. If you've ever talked to a fan of the game, you know they’ll fight tooth and nail to convince you why you should play it—even if you’re adamant about not wanting to. They’re passionate, persistent, and somehow always find a way to get you hooked on Eorzea. You will play Final Fantasy 14, even if you say no. They will find a way. and You will play it.

Best Community Support

Gaming has always involved patches and bug fixes, but some games take it a step further with a constant stream of updates. Each patch not only addresses issues but also introduces new ways to play, offering fresh content and expanding the game in meaningful ways. These updates go beyond just fixing bugs—they show a commitment to meeting the needs and desires of the player base, giving gamers everything they ask for and more. This ongoing support helps keep the game vibrant and ever-evolving, enhancing the overall experience.

Baldur’s Gate 3

No Man’s Sky

And the winner is going to be Baldur’s Gate 3. With its constant updates, bug fixes, and the addition of new characters, romance options, and branching paths, the game has kept players engaged and excited long after its release. The developers’ dedication to refining and expanding the game experience has set a new standard for RPGs, ensuring that every playthrough feels fresh and full of possibilities. Baldur’s Gate 3 has truly earned its place at the top.

Best Independent Game

Indie games have become a cornerstone of the gaming fandom and industry since the mid-2010s, evolving from small, passion-driven projects into massively popular titles that every gamer wants to play. These games have brought fresh ideas, unique gameplay, and creative storytelling to the forefront, proving that you don’t need a big studio or massive budget to create something truly special. Indie developers have shaped the landscape of modern gaming, showing that innovation and heart can turn even the smallest game into a worldwide sensation.

Animal Well
Balatro
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
Neva
UFO 50

And I believe Balatro has this game easily. It’s massive, it’s fun, and it’s set to take the win. The combination of poker mechanics with rogue-like elements creates a unique and engaging experience that’s hard to beat. The blend of strategy, luck, and progression ensures it stands out, offering something fresh for both casual and hardcore gamers. With its compelling gameplay and massive appeal, Balatro is poised to take the top spot without question.

Best Debut Indie Game

Continuing the love and support for indie games, 2024 has seen some fantastic releases. From the highly anticipated debut of Balatro, which blends poker mechanics with rogue-like elements, to the thrilling combination of survival and driving in Pacific Drive, this year has brought a wealth of innovative indie titles. These games showcase the creativity and passion of indie developers, proving once again that some of the most exciting experiences in gaming come from smaller, independent studios. It’s been a great year for indie games, with each offering something unique and memorable.

Balatro
Animal Well
Manor Lords
Pacific Drive
The Plucky Squire

This was one of the tougher selections, given how many great games have made a big splash this year. But I believe much like the last catagory, the winner is going to be Balatro. The buzz surrounding this poker-like game has been massive, outshining many of its competitors. The excitement and support it’s garnered from players and the community are undeniable, and I believe that energy will carry it to victory. Sometimes, it’s not just about the game itself but the wave of enthusiasm that drives it forward—and Balatro has that in spades.

Best Mobile Game

Mobile games have become a massive juggernaut in the gaming world, with a steady stream of incredible releases this year. From the beautiful, fluid action of Zenless Zone Zero to the ever-growing momentum of the Pokémon Card Game, mobile platforms continue to deliver engaging experiences. Whether it’s fast-paced action, strategy, or nostalgia, there’s something for every type of gamer. This year, mobile games have proven once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the gaming industry, offering diverse and high-quality experiences that are accessible to a global audience.

AFK Journey
Balatro
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket
Wuthering Waves
Zenless Zone Zero

I believe the Pokémon Trading Card Game is going to take the win. Its massive popularity from the physical card game side, combined with the added convenience of a handheld mobile version, gives gamers even more options to enjoy it. The ability to play on-the-go, alongside the game’s already established fanbase, has made it a go-to for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. The Pokémon Trading Card Game mobile version has successfully bridged the gap between digital and physical, making it an easy contender for the top spot this year.

Best VR/AR Game:
VR games have made impressive strides in carving out their place in the gaming industry. Once considered a novelty in the '80s and '90s, they have evolved to deliver stunningly immersive experiences. This year was no different, with titles like Batman: Arkham Shadow and Metal: Hellsinger VR shattering outdated perceptions left by early missteps like Teleboxer. The VR landscape is proving it's here to stay, blending innovation with captivating gameplay.

Arizona Sunshine Remake
Asgard’s Wrath 2
Batman: Arkham Shadow
Metal: Hellsinger VR
Metro Awakening

Each of these games is a strong contender for the title of best VR game, showcasing impressive design and immersive gameplay. However, the crown goes to Batman: Arkham Shadow. The Arkham series has earned its reputation for being masterfully crafted, with even its less acclaimed entries outshining much of the competition. Arkham Shadow continues that legacy, delivering an experience that raises the bar for VR gaming. The gameplay of Batman: Arkham Shadow demonstrates how seamlessly the Arkham series' signature mechanics were adapted to VR. It’s a testament to the developers’ skill that they retained the fluid combat, stealth, and detective elements that define the series, all while enhancing immersion in the virtual reality format.

Best Action Game

every year, the action game genre comes out with consistant banger after banger, and 2024 was no exception, with games like Black Myth; Wukong showing us how the ancient warrior could have been, to the dark depressing world of helldivers and warhammer showing off the edgier rougher side of action games. each game was a banger.

Black Myth: Wukong
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Helldivers 2
Stellar Blade
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

That said, Stellar Blade deserves the spotlight for its incredible impact. Not only has it gained massive popularity among both niche communities and mainstream gamers, but it has also drawn favorable comparisons to NieR: Automata. Its fluid and engaging gameplay, paired with a beautifully dark narrative, captured the hearts of players. The game delivered exactly what fans craved—a rich, immersive experience that was as fun to play as it was to unravel.

Best Action/Adventure Game:

Who doesn’t love a great adventure? From the charming world of Astro Bot to the heartfelt journey of Prince of Persia and the chilling atmosphere of Silent Hill, adventure games offer something for everyone. These stories captivate our imagination, inspire curiosity, and remind us why we fell in love with gaming—every journey is a tale waiting to unfold.

ASTRO BOT
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Silent Hill 2
Star Wars Outlaws
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Honestly, this section has a lot of great choices to chose from. so many great and fun action/adventure games out there. however, i think Astro-bot is going to win. the game is filled with beautiful and creative landscapes, a fun adventure and tugs at the nostalgic heart strings when you save the other bots like Kazuya from yakuza or Wesker from resident evil

Best RPG:

When it comes to RPGs, everyone has their favorite. Anime fans swear by Final Fantasy, Dragon’s Dogma is fiercely defended by the Tumblr crowd, and your quirky older brother? He’ll champion Elden Ring until the end—and for good reason. These games resonate deeply, offering unforgettable adventures and something for everyone to love.

Dragon’s Dogma 2
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Metaphor: ReFantazio

But let’s be real—Yakuza: Infinite Wealth is poised to steal the spotlight. Every fan of the series has their favorite entry, but this one is shaping up to be the Yakuza game. With its signature blend of gripping storytelling, over-the-top action, and heartfelt humor, Infinite Wealth is ready to deliver everything gamers love about the series—and then some.

Best Fighting Game:

Fighting games are one of my absolute favorite genres, so I try to keep my perspective as unbiased as possible when discussing them. That said, it’s hard to ignore what an incredible year it’s been for the genre. From the highly anticipated Tekken 8 to the revival of a classic with the Marvel vs. Capcom Collection, and the arrival of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, giving fans the ultimate arena fighter—this year has been a knockout for fighting game enthusiasts. It’s safe to say the genre had a perfect run in 2024!

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising (Arc System Works/Cygames)
Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO (Spike Chunsoft/Bandai Namco)
Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics (Capcom)
MultiVersus (Player First Games/WB Games)
Tekken 8 (Bandai Namco)

Who will emerge victorious as the Grand Champion in the Game Awards' Fighting Game category? It’s a tough call between Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Marvel vs. Capcom Collection, and Tekken 8. However, with two of these games riding significant momentum, my bet is on Tekken 8 to take the crown. The fandom is as passionate as ever, and the buzz surrounding the game is absolutely electric. Only time will tell, but Tekken 8 looks primed to dominate the competition!

Best Family Game

Princess Peach: Showtime!
Astro Bot
Super Mario Party Jamboree
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
The Plucky Squire

Best Sim/Strategy Game

Strategy games have long been at the forefront of gaming, offering players engaging, thought-provoking experiences. Titles like Frostpunk and Manor Lords, though not new, exemplify the pinnacle of the genre. They masterfully combine challenging mechanics with immersive world-building, capturing exactly what makes strategy games so enjoyable and resonant with players.

Age of Mythology: Retold (World’s Edge/Forgotten Empires/Xbox Game Studios)
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (Capcom)
Manor Lords (Slavic Magic/Hooded Horse)
Unicorn Overlord (Vanillaware/Sega/Atlus)

That said, credit has to go to the Slavs who have been exploring unique, albeit sometimes janky, strategy games for years. Manor Lords stands as the pinnacle of their efforts, blending the strategic depth of Warcraft-style gameplay with beautifully rendered graphics. It’s a shining example of what both gamers and strategy enthusiasts crave—a perfect mix of innovation, challenge, and visual splendor.

Best Sports/Racing Game:

Racing games have long been a cornerstone of gaming, roaring onto the scene since the early days of arcades. With every new year, their popularity shifts into high gear, and sports games are right there alongside them, dominating the playing field. This year is shaping up to be an absolute powerhouse for sports and racing fans, featuring an impressive lineup of must-play titles. Best Multiplayer Game:

This year has been nothing short of phenomenal for multiplayer games, delivering hit after hit for the gaming community. From powerhouse titles like Call of Duty to surprise standouts like Warhammer and Helldivers, it’s been a year of unforgettable moments and major waves across the board.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Helldivers 2
Super Mario Party Jamboree
Tekken 8
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2

With so many amazing titles to choose from, it's tough to pick just one. However, if we’re going by sheer hype, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 takes the spotlight. As a longstanding household name, the Call of Duty series has consistently delivered excitement and entertainment to multiplayer gaming fans. Among its many iterations, the Black Ops saga stands out as the crown jewel of the franchise, capturing the hearts of players worldwide.

Best Adaptation:

Video game adaptations have always been a staple of the entertainment landscape, but for years, many missed the mark, often feeling lackluster or uninspired. However, since the mid-2010s, there’s been a noticeable shift, with gaming adaptations finally starting to get it right. 2024 has truly been a banner year for the genre, with League of Legends getting a stellar Netflix series and Amazon tackling the beloved Fallout franchise, proving that video game stories can make a powerful transition to the screen.

Arcane
Fallout
Knuckles
Like a Dragon: Yakuza
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft

With a heavy heart, I have to give it to Arcane. It achieved what once seemed impossible: making me—and countless others—actually want to play League of Legends. By transforming Riot’s scattered character lore into a beautifully animated, emotionally gripping story, Arcane brought the world of League to life in ways the game never could. And beyond its stunning visuals and storytelling, it delivered genuine, well-crafted LGBTQ+ representation, which is all too rare. Arcane isn’t just an adaptation—it’s a masterpiece.
Most Anticipated Game:

Gamers are eagerly anticipating the next wave of sequels to their favorite franchises. From major titles like the highly-anticipated Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Ghost of Yotei, to the triumphant return of Metroid Prime as Nintendo finally unveils Metroid Prime 4, the excitement is palpable. With a lineup of fantastic sequels and spin-offs on the horizon, the coming years promise to be an unforgettable time for gaming enthusiasts.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Ghost of Yotei
Grand Theft Auto VI
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Monster Hunter Wilds

It’s undeniable that gamers have been eagerly awaiting the release of Metroid Prime 4, with anticipation reaching a fever pitch. Fans have passionately begged and pleaded with Nintendo and Retro Studios to bring Samus back for her long-overdue heroic return. Now, at last, the wait is almost over, and the excitement surrounding her comeback is truly electrifying.

Content Creator of the Year

A vital part of gaming culture is the vibrant community of content creators that surrounds it. From popular Let's Players and streamers entertaining millions, to speedrunners discovering innovative ways to push games to their limits, these creators continually enrich the gaming experience. Add to that the rise of esports athletes turning competitive gaming into thrilling contests of champions, and it’s clear that this dynamic ecosystem plays a huge role in uniting and inspiring gamers worldwide.

CaseOh
IlloJuan
Techno Gamerz
TypicalGamer
Usada Pekora

And I’ve got to hand it to CaseOh—the guy’s an absolute legend. Completely laid-back and hilariously unserious, he’s a blast both on and off the screen. Whether he’s gaming or streaming, he knows how to keep things fun, making every moment feel like a good time.

Best Esports Game

E-sports have undeniably cemented their place in the entertainment world. With massive yearly tournaments and colossal viewerships, it’s clear that gaming has evolved into a legitimate sport of its own. The turnout for events and the sheer popularity of streams show that gamers have spoken: competitive gaming is here to stay, and it’s only getting bigger.

DOTA 2
Counter-Strike 2
League of Legends
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
Valorant

This one’s a tough call, but I think it’s going to be League of Legends—and not just because of the game itself, but thanks to the massive success of Arcane. The show has done wonders for the League universe, attracting a whole new wave of fans and breathing new life into the game’s lore. It’s impressive how Arcane has elevated the entire franchise, making League more accessible and exciting for players old and new alike. And now, the grand finale: Game of the Year!

This year’s category is stacked with incredible contenders, including Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Elden Ring, Black Myth: Wukong, and Astro Bot. With so many heavy hitters in the mix, choosing a winner is no easy task.

ASTRO BOT (Team ASOBI / Sony Interactive Entertainment)
Balatro (LocalThunk / Playstack)
Black Myth: Wukong (Game Science)
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (FromSoftware / Bandai Namco Entertainment)
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (Square Enix)
Metaphor: ReFantazio (Studio Zero / ATLUS)

That said, my pick for Game of the Year is Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. On sheer name recognition alone, it’s a titan of the industry. When you combine that with its legacy and fanbase, it’s hard to imagine it not taking the crown. While Elden Ring and Black Myth: Wukong bring fierce competition, I think Final Fantasy VII has the longevity and weight to edge them out.

As for Black Myth: Wukong, while it’s a standout for fans of character action games, its niche appeal might keep it just under the radar in such a crowded field. Still, it’s sure to carve out its place as a beloved title within its genre.

Let’s see how it all plays out, but one thing’s for sure—this year’s lineup is one for the history books!
