Before we dive into the review, a quick history lesson is in order—especially if you're new to the world of Digimon or just need a refresher. Back in the '90s, Tamagotchi was created by Aki Maita and Akihiro Yokoi. If you were a kid during that time, you probably remember those little digital pets fondly—or maybe with mild trauma. They were loud, needy, and absolutely not classroom-approved. Teachers confiscated them. Parents "accidentally" broke them. They beeped, screamed, and demanded constant attention. And somehow, we loved them for it.
Then came 1997..
Wiz and Bandai Namco decided to flip the script with Digital Monsters—better known as Digimon. While Pokemon had a clear creator, Digimon was crafted by a collaborative team who went under the pseudonym Akiyoshi Hongo. Their mission? Take the chaos of Tamagotchi and make it cool. No more baby blobs begging for food and cleanups—instead, kids got what they really wanted: monsters. Fighting. Each. Other. It was Tamagotchi… but with battles. Like Pokémon, but grittier. And honestly? Kind of better. Now, this fan game doesn’t throw you into epic Digimon battles—but that’s not the point. It leans heavily into that old-school Tamagotchi vibe.
You feed your Digimon,
and make sure it’s happy and healthy.
It’s a charming little throwback, a digital pet oddity with a sprinkle of nostalgia. Don’t expect a game you’ll grind for hours on end—but it’s a fun curiosity, and the fact that it has a save feature (even if it’s a little buggy) is a nice touch. Over all, check it out for a once over.
