We don’t need a last of us remake.

The last of us was a spectacular game mixing survival horror and action with beautiful cinematic experience. That being said, we don't need a remake. Resident evil 1-3 were forgivable, those came out in the 1990s and the plots don’t align with the new lore of 4 onward so remaking makes sense. Resident Evil 5 put Resident Evil 1 remake into the main canon so two and three needed to be re-written and remade to fit the new canon. 

Last of us only has 2 games, one of them being a direct sequel to the first one. The plot while a small plot hole is consistent. There is nothing to remake aside from Abby’s dad's ethnicity even then you can hand wave that. Remaking it does nothing but feel like a cheap cash grab on a barely Alive franchise. Usually when you make a remake you fix a plot issue or even add things that might have been removed. I.e resident evil adding Lisa Trevor into the canon adding to the mythos of umbrella and nemesis as a program. I.e Lisa Trevor being part of the G virus and progenitor virus needed to make Nemesis in the post resident evil 5 canon. 

While it is possible to fix plot issues for the last of us, there’s not much you can fix from what I’ve seen. I’d like to preface this next, by saying. I am not a graphics whore. I understand gameplay and plot are more important than graphics at the end of the day. But the other thing with remakes is that they tend to change graphical things; Link's awakening remake turned it from a 2d sprite game to a cutesy adventure. Metal gear solid: twin snakes polished the textures by making it resemble something closer to Metal Gear Sold 2. The trailer shows that the remakes graphics are worse. Last of us 1 came out in 2013.. how do you make it look worse. How do you turn joel from gritty survivor to grandpa on purpose? How did  you turn ellie from a scared girl to blandy mc boring. 

You took everything from what made these character people worth following then just drained their features. I just don't get it

In closing I don't think the last of us needed a remake, and honestly nothing about the remake looks interesting. From the bad looking graphics, and nothing in the canon needing to be changed makes it really unnecessary other than Resident Evil is getting remake after remake. Naughty dog really banking on the last of us  isn't a bad thing, but they really need to do better in its coming decisions.
