The rumor about general grievous that i think about often

Revenge of the Sith, released when I was in middle school, quickly became one of my favorite movies in the Star Wars prequels. Dark and brooding, the film's depiction of a fallen hero had a particular appeal to a young edgelord like myself. One character that stood out among the rest was General Grievous. His intimidating appearance and unique fighting style caught many people's attention, including myself and my friends, who wondered why precisely it was Obi-Wan who had to do battle with the four-armed warrior. In the end, Revenge of the Sith and its iconic characters remain a treasured part of my middle school memories.

They had no real history or even reason to fight other than that grievous was a bad guy, and obiwan was the cool colorful hero here to save the day from the on coming droid threat. But there a rumor on spreading through the lunch time tables of a lost storyline about how prior to the movies, obiwan had rebuilt grievous and taught him how to fight with a lightsaber in hopes of turning him into a Jedi. It’s stupid now I’m hindsight; but it made sense at the time, we didn’t have smart phones to look it up, so all we had was our uncles who may or may not have worked at Lucas films.

In the distant past, a fascinating rumor about the origins of a beloved Star Wars villain, General Grievous, spread across middle school lunch tables like wildfire. The rumor was that as a young droid, Grievous was rebuilt by none other than Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi with an interest in turning the formidable droid into a weapon for the light side. While the details may not have made sense when broken down, to a young mind, this concept of a mechanical sentinel slicing away a Sith Lord's hand with lightning speed sounded plausible and exciting. Even as an adult, I can't deny that this origin story still holds a place in my heart.

In my mind, I envision this story being significant due to the parallels it creates. To see Obi-Wan rebuild General Grievous, only to one day battle him, would be a tragic echo of Anakin's story. As Obi-Wan works with C-3PO and sees the parallels between himself and the faithful droid, it creates an interesting robotic parallel to Anakin's journey. At the same time, the story would be a poignant reminder of the impact of Obi-Wan's failures, as he allows his failures and the Force to guide him to the man he is destined to become. Of course in hindsight it’s a silly rumor from the middle school lunch table filled with holes, but that’s what made it fun.
