My Adventures with Superman: Episode 1: Part 1 (review)

Ethics and brevity: I have no connections to dc, dc comics, Warner brothers or Superman, I’m just a fan who likes Superman

Copyright: Superman is property of the dc comics and Warner brothers.

Story:

The store is like a mixture of a slice of life anime and Superman. Which in itself sounds like a mess, but adult swim knocked out of the park. The show starts off similarly to superman the animated series, with a small showing of young child Clark Kent as he discovers his powers. He discovers them as he runs to rescue a woman whose car was going to crash into a tree, his instincts kick in and he pulls the car back. He then flies to get his stuck kite out of a tree because he’s still a kid.

We then flash forward to adult Clark Kent on his first day at the daily planet, he wakes up and says to himself. “I hope today is a normal day” but then uses his powers to rescue a lost cat. On his way he bumps into Lois lane and instsntly is smitten, but is too busy to go to work, he makes a quick pit stop at a donut shop to get his new work some donuts, which he bumps into Lois again, once agin smitten again. He finally makes it to the daily planet, only to once again meet his beloved Lois lane and best pal jimmy olsen.

Lois is trying to pitch perry a story about secret robots being trafficked out of metropolis. Perry tells her no, but she lies to Clark and jimmy saying that Perry loves the story and they go with her to find the robots. They go to one of Lois’ sources a young child who runs a kids news paper, the kid somehow has a lead on the robots and our trio of idiots go to it.

As they try to sneak into the hideout, Lois and Clark flirt, while jimmy finds his way inside. The flirting is cute and the threes dynamic works well here, showing their roles in the show, Clark’s the main lead but a smart hero who’s a total himbo, Lois is the love lead who’s a stubborn but good natured person, jimmy is the middle man who’s a mixture of dork and smart person.

Perry texts Lois a lot saying not to do the story and to have the three come back to the planet, but they venture forth. As they enter the hideout it turns out the robots are gone, and Perry calls Clark to inform him that If they don’t come back to the planet they are fired. Clark heart broken that Lois would lie to her leaves, Lois is heart broken that her beloved is hurt because of her and that he won’t help her, pressed on with jimmy.

The story cuts into a small a and b plot. The a plot becomes Lois and jimmy looking for leads in the robots and b plot is heartbroken Clark on his way to the planet, Lois and jimmy find a lead. Well it falls into their lap as they see a freight boat carrying the robots, the leader of the smuggling job sends one of her men and a robot after them, the little girl from earlier sees it and high tails it to get an adult who can help. but it cuts back to Clark as he weights his options as the little girl runs into him, she frantically tells him what happened and his instincts kick in as he goes to save his friends and the city.

Clark meets up with the three but the robot is too strong for him to play himbo, he lets something hit him so he can change into a disguise, a hoodie.. not the Superman outfit sure but it’s effective. Clark as Superman helps save the day by saving Lois from a robot. The leader gets angry that he’s easily withstanding the robot sends more robots. Superman is now in trouble three robots vs one superman isn’t an easy task, as he fights the robots, Lois sees their off switch and begins turning them off.

Once Lois sees Clark in his hoodie as he saves the day. Lois and jimmy try to learn who is but Clark leaves in a hurry to pretend like he was hurt as Clark. After Clark and Lois flirt one more time, the trio return to Perry who says denies the story.

Good:

The animation is fluid.

The voice acting is solid, especially Lois and Clark,

The designs are fresh and unique

The anime references itself aren’t just akira and dragon ball z

The in universe dc references are cute. I didn’t mention it but both jimmy and Clark reference Atlanteans and other dc

Bad:

The animation. While good and fluid has some resemblance to she-ra which isn’t bad just takes some time getting used to

Over all:

A solid start to a Superman cartoon, it’s refreshing seeing Clark be a good man who fights for truth, justice and a Better tomorrow.

Score:

10/10 go watch it! It’s on hbo max, YouTube and your local cable on demand for free.
