Nintendo Confirms Zelda movie
On November 7th 2023, Nintendo made an official announcement: a live-action Zelda movie is in development. Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the most iconic game developers in Nintendo's history, will serve as the Executive Co-Producer alongside movie producer Avi Arad, who has worked on beloved superhero titles such as Spider-Man and Venom. This collaboration between Nintendo and its rival Sony is unprecedented and promising, as it will bring the popular video game series to the big screen. With two of the most notable names in gaming involved in the production, this upcoming film has the potential to be a momentous release.
The prospect of a Zelda movie is incredibly promising and holds vast potential. I am eager to see the direction that the filmmakers choose to take this project and envision the possibilities. Will they employ CGI and a green screen akin to contemporary movies like Modern Marvel movies, or opt for an on-location with practical effects production similar to the "Yor Hunter" or "Lord Of The Rings" film? The successful release of the Mario movie exemplifies the potential for a Nintendo-based production to be made and uphold fidelity to its source material. As a diehard fan, I am looking forward to witnessing the birth of a Zelda movie and experiencing its unique cinematic wonder.
On the official Nintendo twitter account, it was revealed at the same time of the announcement that Miyamoto and Arad have been trying to shop the movie around for a few years now, and that Miyamoto fingered Arad to be the Co-Producer of the movie since day one of trying to get the movie out the door. They also announced that Nintendo is heavily influencing the movies production and no film and movie company is going to make any changes from the Zelda movie.
