top 10 movies i wathced in 2023

In the year 2023, cinema was a haven for diverse and compelling titles, offering a multitude of creative ideas and a wide span of inspirations. From the caped crusaders to the horrifying monsters of the big screen, moviegoers were blessed with an abundance of choices to suit their tastes. Not to mention the addition of a drug-addicted bear, adding some unique flavor to the mix. As a lover of cinema, it's clear that this year was filled with some truly remarkable selections, proving the power and potential of the medium.

1. Barbie

genre: drama, adventure
copyright: Hasbro toys, Warner Brothers
Year Of Release: 2023

I went into this movie without much expectation, thinking that I wasnt the target audience. But my wife and her best friend were eager to see it, and I went along thinking they'd at least have fun. There were many memes and jokes floating around about this movie being the "Evangelion for women," but to my surprise, they were right. The movie was an incredible journey of self reflection, self discovery, and the power of womanhood. It touched me deeply, making me tear up as a man, even though I cannot fully relate to the struggles women face. Nonetheless, I have gained a newfound respect for the experiences.

And yes, the Ken subplot was another highlight of the movie for me. As men, we often base our personalities around what we love and the people we care about, sometimes going to extremes. When Ken found "The Patriarchy" in a middle school library, it showcased the struggles that men often face. Finding ourselves, finding what makes us function, and what we need to do to be "kenough" for ourselves. It's really a touching story for anyone, no matter their gender, to relate to. The trauma of trying to figure out who we are is a tough mountain to climb, and the "Barbie" movie 100% nails it.

2. Cocaine Bear

genre: horror, thriller
copyright: Universal Pictures

The movie is a well shot throwback to the 80s. the movie is about a bear that does cocaine.. ok its about more than that. its about parenthood and the lenghts a parents will go through if it means protecting their children. the main plot is about two children who skip school and go to the park, where they find a bag of cocaine. through out the movie the bear chases the children up a tree, where one of the kid's mother and the local park ranger finds them.. and the bear who is high on cocaine. the bear chases the cast its home cave where it merges with the subplot about drug dealers. the movie is about two things. what parents need to do to protect their kids and learn from their mistakes. and that a bear did cocaine.

3. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3.

genre: comic, super hero
copyright: marvel comics, disney
Year Of Release: 2023

The MCU has had a mixed record lately, but James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" remains a high point for the franchise. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is a touching story of Star Lord overcoming depression and the impact it has on him and his friends. It features beautiful cinematography and long, lingering shots that draw the audience into Star Lord's emotional state. Moments of silence and a colorful palate heighten the film's intensity and keep the audience engaged throughout. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is a touching and visually stunning film that shouldn't be missed.

The growth of the characters throughout the series is one of its defining moments. Drax goes from a brutish character to a deep man who has lost much, including his family, his children, and pieces of himself. Mantis evolves from a naive healer into a motherly figure for the group, bringing compassion and understanding to counterbalance their shortcomings. Even Nebula, once a coldhearted destroyer, evolves into a confused woman seeking to understand her place in the world. The direction of James Gunn not only enriches the characters, but adds depth and heart to the story. This is what makes these characters so memorable and enjoyable to watch. It's honestly the best MCU film of this phase.
