Previously on X-Men:

X-Men 97 is a continuation of the renowned 1990s animated series. For those who weren't around to witness the era-defining original, here are the key points to bring you up to speed. The series ended in 1996 with Professor Xavier's assassination, but his Shi'ar girlfriend rescues him by taking him to her homeworld for treatment, which is currently one of the safest places for him within the larger X-Men fandom. As far as everyone, including the cast Xavier is dead. But will live on in his X-men's memory. So, buckle up and prepare for a thrilling ride back to the 90s!

Now on X-men:

The trailer for X-Men 97 is packed with nostalgia and excitement, with a simple yet impactful trailer that perfectly encapsulates everything that's to come. Beginning with subtle references to the original series, like the X-Men toy and the infamous Wolverine photo, the trailer moves us forward in time as it zooms in on a TV. After professor Xavier gives his final words, the footage gets grainy, as the old world turns into the new series. Giving us a world filled with anti mutant strife, (ha), desolation and sadness. As Cyclops encourages the X-Men to stay vigilant uttering the fan, while Storm urges them to believe in each other. We get glimpses of what's to come, featuring familiar villains and new challenges. Ultimately the trailer wraps up with a breathtaking shot of Cyclops' iconic line 'To me, my X-Men' as the team poses for a dramatic group shot.

It fades to black then back in, there's one last scene that offers viewers a glimpse of the future, as the X-Men corner Magneto, who no longer needs to wear the iconic helmet and is now in a more formal attire including his M belt. He gives them a mischievous smile, saying he's not here to fight, but to assist, as he has Professor Xavier's final wishes. He then shares with them that everything within the mansion is theirs, as the team sets off on another adventure, with Magneto in tow. So, if you're eager to relive the nostalgia of the 90s X-Men series, and you're excited to see what's in store for the X-Men in this new series, this trailer gives us just enough taste without revealing too much. Buckle up and get your mutant powers ready - it's time to join the 90s X-Men once again!

some thoughts:

Look at that stunning trailer for X-Men 97! It's a feast for the eyes, with action-packed, dramatic and satisfying scenes at every corner. The cast is interesting, having bishop return, and having morph be a main cast member is an interesting choice overall. The 3D animation is executed brilliantly, and it manages to still feel true to the original series.

However, I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed with some of voice acting. While some characters managed to capture the essence of their 90s counterparts like Cyclops (Rest In Peace Norm Spencer), others missed the mark. Specifically, Wolverine wasn't as gruff as he should have been.

Overall, the trailer was still impressive and left me wanting more from this revival series!
