Today, the gaming community mourns the loss of a significant cultural cornerstone. The video game magazine Game Informer has ceased operations, leaving dedicated fans disheartened by its departure, even in an era where print media has largely faded away.

I recall the first time I received a Game Informer magazine subscription in the early 2000s. At that time, websites like NeoGAF and GameFAQs were still niche communities, and Game Informer was the premier source for video game news and reviews. The magazine featured all the major scoops and event information. One issue that particularly captivated me covered X-Men Legends and X2: Wolverine's Revenge I was thrilled to see the abundance of upcoming X-Men games. I meticulously read the magazine from cover to cover to absorb every detail about these anticipated releases.

Another cherished memory of Game Informer was their April Fools' editions. These issues featured humorous and almost believable news articles, such as "Sonic Reborn," which depicted Sonic the Hedgehog with a machine gun. They also included creative and whimsical covers, like Master Chief riding a unicorn.

In later years, obtaining a Game Informer magazine became as simple as making a purchase at GameStop. However, there remained a sense of grandeur in receiving a Game Informer magazine from the 2010s onward. I recall buying a copy of Devil May Cry 5, which included a subscription, and receiving a stunning PlayStation 25th-anniversary cover. The cover art featured both forgotten and beloved PlayStation characters, evoking cherished memories. Seeing Kratos, Cloud Strife, and Crash Bandicoot alongside Sackboy and Aloy was nostalgic, reminding me of the joy those games brought. and its times like that which I remembered how fun games were. and how much love gamers, and gaming as a culture brings itself into the culture itself.
