Today, Sony announced the latest addition to the PlayStation 5 family—the PlayStation 5 Pro. However, the reception was less than favorable. Despite introducing some valuable quality-of-life improvements, told to us per Sony's blog such as AI-driven upscaling, advanced ray tracing, and other essential features, the announcement fell short of expectations. Sony also revealed a limited backward compatibility list, primarily consisting of PlayStation 4 titles. While this feature might have excited fans, the overall response was dampened by certain key disappointments yet to be addressed.

One notable concern with the PlayStation 5 Pro is the absence of a physical disk drive. While it's exciting to replay classics like "Final Fantasy VII Remake" or "Spider-Man", the lack of a disk drive means players must have purchased these games digitally. This raises an ongoing issue for many gamers: the desire for physical media. Gamers don’t want to be limited to online-only digital purchases; they value the ability to own physical copies, insert them into the console, and play. Additionally, a digital-only market restricts the option of buying used games from past generations, which many players still enjoy.

The most significant concern for many PlayStation gamers is the price of the PlayStation 5 Pro. Priced at $700, it represents a considerable investment, especially when compared to the traditional model where consoles are sold at a loss and compensated through games and accessories. For many gamers, $700 is a substantial amount—potentially equivalent to a significant portion of their rent. This high price point risks positioning the console as a luxury item rather than a widely accessible entertainment option. As a result, some gamers might consider more affordable alternatives, such as the Nintendo Switch or even prebuilt PCs and laptops, which can offer similar gaming experiences at a lower cost.''

some choice comments left on Sony's official blog showing how horrified and rightfully annoyed sony fans are at the reveal

It's just

It's reminiscent of a new iPhone release—where the main changes are different colors and a few new features, making it feel somewhat hollow. It seems more like a fashion statement than a product designed for genuine enjoyment.
