Patlabor returns with new movie trilogy, Patlabor EZY
This is going to be 10,000% biased, but Patlabor is one of my all-time favorite under-the-radar anime. It’s funny, action-packed, and genuinely beautiful one of those rare series that balances workplace comedy with mecha spectacle and real heart. Every few anime generations, someone tries to reboot it… usually with minimal (if any) success. Case in point: the last reboot was a ten-minute short film that barely made a ripple before quietly fading into obscurity.
That’s why today’s news actually feels exciting.
The official Patlabor Twitter account has announced a new trilogy of films, starring Nao and the crew once again. Based on the trailer, this appears to continue the timeline established by the most recent reboot. While plot details are still being kept under wraps, the preview gives us what matters most: familiar faces, classic vibes, and animation that looks gorgeous seamlessly blending crisp 2D work with modern 3D elements.
For a franchise that refuses to stay in the past, this feels like a confident step forward. And honestly? I’m thrilled to be reporting on the return of Patlabor. We will be watching Patlabor EZY in may 2026
