The legend of zelda hits a monumental

Let’s fill our hearts and look back swinging with power, on this monumental gaming anniversary.

Everyone seems to have a story about the first time they played The Legend of Zelda. It’s practically a gaming rite of passage. Like many players, my formal introduction to the series came through Ocarina of Time. Yet I vividly remember the moment I first experienced the original the grandfather of Hylian, “definitely-not-an-elf” adventures.

My entry point, however, wasn’t an NES or an SNES. It was the Game Boy Advance.

Picture it: Christmas morning, the mid-2000s.

My grandmother knew I loved video games, even if she didn’t quite know which ones. What she did know was that I “had a Nintendo,” and that was enough. Under the tree were a few new games and among them was the Game Boy Advance re-release of the very first Legend of Zelda.

At the time, I didn’t realize I was unwrapping a piece of gaming history. I just knew I was about to begin an adventure, one that, decades later, still feels timeless.

And I won’t pretend otherwise. Despite it being well established that I’m not particularly great at video games, I was especially bad at Zelda. I was constantly lost, perpetually confused, and met my end at the hands of obstacles that any seasoned player would breeze past without a second thought.

But none of that mattered. I was having fun.

So today, we celebrate The Legend of Zelda, for Forty remarkable years of adventure, discovery, and unforgettable worlds. And as we look ahead, here’s to another forty years of exploration, excitement, and, of course, keeping Ganon at bay. 🗡️✨
